Psychodynamic Counselling

Psychodynamic counselling can help us to understand how our current feelings, difficulties and behaviours are shaped and influenced by our past experiences and relationships, as well as by our unconscious mind and impulses.

A trusting and accepting relationship is key to this therapeutic approach. I aim to create a safe, confidential environment where you can speak openly about your thoughts and feelings, your childhood and your relationships with others, both in the past and in the present.

My intention is to understand how it feels to be you, so that we can think together about any difficulties and issues your are experiencing.

Psychodynamic therapy is all about getting to the root cause of a problem, to understand how you are feeling, why you think, react and behave in certain ways and how this affects your life and relationships now. When we understand how things in our past or unconscious are influencing our lives in the present, there is the opportunity for change.

Psychodynamic therapy has been shown to be highly effective for a wide range of issues and research has demonstrated that clients benefit from lasting change which continues to grow even after the therapy has ended.

Whether you are looking for support with a particular issue or life event, an ongoing problem, or the opportunity to work on your personal growth and development, psychodynamic counselling can be a life-changing, life-enhancing experience.

What to expect

It’s important to find a therapist with whom who you feel comfortable and at ease.
Your first step is to contact me by email to arrange a free, 20-minute telephone call.
This allows you to get a sense of me and how I work, and for me to find out more about you and why you are looking for counselling.

The next step is to book a stand-alone assessment session. This is a 50-minute session, where I will take a history and we will discuss what you are looking for from counselling in more detail and how the psychodynamic appraoch could help.

At the end of this session, if we feel we are a good fit to work together, we will then arrange to begin regular, weekly sessions, at the same time and place each week.

Regular sessions are of 50-minute duration.
