Welcome to my new office!

Mar 3, 2025

I’m excited to say that at the beginning of February, I moved into my beautiful new office in Hanley Swan, in Worcestershire. While I was sad to leave the wonderful group of therapists at the shared therapy centre in Malvern, I was feeling ready for a space of my own.

For some time, I’d been thinking about the benefits of having my own therapy room, one which reflects me as a therapist and also the needs of my clients.

As well as being a therapist, I’ve also been a client in therapy, and I know how important it is to be in a safe, warm, welcoming and private environment. Renting a room by the hour in a group practice has had many benefits, especially when I was starting out in my private practice, but I found myself longing for a more personal space in which to welcome my clients.

Group practice therapy rooms have to serve the needs of several different therapists and their clients and are therefore necessarily simply furnished, functional and easy to keep clean and tidy.  In my new room, I can add those personal touches which create a more comfortable, informal feeling. It’s very much still a professional space but without feeling overly clinical.

What makes a good therapeutic space?

I’ve put a lot of thought into what makes a therapeutic space feel both welcoming and containing—a place where clients can feel safe, comfortable, and able to open up. Key elements include a consistent layout that provides predictability and familiarity, a clean and uncluttered environment that fosters a sense of calm, and a choice of seating arrangements to give clients a sense of control over their surroundings. Every detail is designed to create a secure and supportive atmosphere for therapy.

My room, or my therapeutic approach won’t necessarily be right for everyone, which is why I always offer a stand-alone initial session which gives potential clients a no obligation opportunity to meet with me in person in my office. It’s a chance to experience what it will be like to work with me, to get a feel for my therapeutic approach, the location, the office space. If after this initial meeting we mutually decide we are a good fit to work together, we’ll make arrangements for regular, weekly sessions.

Where to find me

My new office is in the beautiful village of Hanley Swan in Worcestershire. It is in a small business centre which part of a working farm. The office location is rural, but close to the centre of the village, where there is a village green with a pretty pond, a village shop and other amenities.

Hanley Swan is easily accessible by car, with the local towns of Malvern, Worcester, Ledbury, Tewksbury and Upton upon Severn all within 20 minutes/ 10 mile radius. The rural situation offers a discreet, confidential location with convenient parking right outside the office which is at ground floor level.

If you’re considering therapy and would like to explore the possibility of working with me, I’d love to welcome you to my office in Hanley Swan. Contact me to discuss booking an initial consultation.
